Professional junk removal packages and rates have a lot to do with the amount of garbage that needs to be removed.

It’s time to stop procrastinating. That junk removal project in your garage, basement, backyard, or attic is not going to complete itself.

But as you survey the piles of junk in front of you you’re wondering how and where you can throw it all away. Your regular trash can isn’t big enough, but do you need an industrial dumpster? Is there anything smaller?

Well, wonder no more! This is a guide on how to determine what you will need for your junk removal during a renovation. Follow these guidelines to save money and frustration.

The Basics of Junk Removal

Junk removal services specialize in removing items or materials that you want to get rid of. Most junk removal services will give you a specific list or some basic guidelines of what they will remove.

Generally speaking, “junk” could refer to old furniture, appliances, construction, material, household trash, or carpet scraps. It also could include clothing, hot tubs, books, and musical instruments.

Chances are if you want to get rid of it, a junk removal company will take it! The only thing to be aware of is that most companies will not dispose of unused medicine or certain medical devices.

Some companies will just discard all of your junk, but others will sort through the items for anything that could be salvaged. You may have to pay more if you are interested in a service that sorts through items for you. Our prices range from $87 to $497.

Types of Junk Removal

Your junk removal needs will depend on the amount and size of the junk you are trying to get rid of. Different services have different prices, business hauling is different from residential. Some companies charge based on the number of truckloads, others charge based on the nature of the items you are trying to dispose of.

On average, removing renovation waste like dirt, drywall, or carpet costs about $100 to $600 per truckload. If you want to remove other items during your renovation project, it will likely cost more.

You should always contact the junk removal company to get a quote and ask any specific questions. Below is a list of options starting with the least amount of junk and ending with the option for the largest amount of junk.

Curbside Pickup

If you made small renovations and have minimal junk, you may be able to just leave the junk on the curb outside your home. This is a great option if you are able to carry the junk yourself and organize it into a big pile.

Curbside pickup will also save money you money because the crew does not have to carry junk from the house into the truck. Our cost of curbside pickup is from $87 to $497.

You can arrange a pickup time and leave your junk on the curb. A crew with a truck will come and load everything up to dispose of. You do not have to be on-site for the process either, so you can go about your day without waiting around.

If you are wondering whether there is too much junk for a curbside pickup you can take a picture or give an overall description to the company when asking for a quote. They may suggest that you go with a different option based on your individual situation.

Dumpster Rental

For larger projects, you should consider a dumpster rental. The benefit of renting is that you can keep the dumpster for longer. So if you are in the middle of a week-long demolition or renovation process, you can throw things in the dumpster as you go.

Many construction companies use this method to be sure that there is just one junk removal process needed at the very end of the process. Dumpster rental will be more expensive than curbside pickup but if you have a lot of stuff to toss, it may be the only option.

However, you can still save money by choosing the right size dumpster for the job. There are generally three or four sizes based on total cubic yards. For example, a 10-cubic yard dumpster is equivalent to about four truck’s worth of junk and will cost about $250 – $350.

A 25-cubic yard dumpster can hold as much as eight trucks and will cost about $400 to $500. The price will depend on the size and the overall weight. Some companies will charge more for very heavy loads of junk.

Clean Out

If you are aiming to get rid of basically everything in a given room or your whole home, you might consider a full cleanout service. Some junk removal companies will not perform this service, but those that do can be a huge help.

This process involves a team of people coming in to remove all the furniture, appliances, and any other debris you want out of your house. It is perfect for multi-room renovation projects or if you are tearing down part or all of the house.

This is usually a more expensive service because of the time and energy spent by the crew to haul everything away and clean up after themselves. If you think this is the service you are looking for, contact the junk removal company first and describe the project.
